Acute Care Facilities
Acute care facilities are located in Nipawin, Melfort, Tisdale, Porcupine Plain, Kelvington and Hudson Bay. All acute sites offer 24-hour emergency services, primary medical care, palliative care, outpatient services, laboratory and diagnostic imaging services.
The following specialty services are also provided in the region:
- Surgical Program - Melfort Hospital and Nipawin Hospital
- Hemodialysis Satellite Unit - Tisdale Hospital
Working in conjunction with the Home Unit at the St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon, patients who are dialyzing in either Regina or Saskatoon and are deemed medically stable to be in the satellite unit may access this service on a first come, first served basis. There are six stations in the dialysis unit providing treatments for 24 patients.
Chemotherapy Outreach Program (COPS)
- Melfort Hospital, Nipawin Hospital and Tisdale Hospital
COPS is a program of the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency and is co-ordinated by the Saskatoon Cancer Centre and the Allan Blair Cancer Centre in partnership with Regional Health Authorities. COPS centres located in Melfort, Nipawin and Tisdale may provide patients with cancer care closer to home, reducing the need to travel great distances to Saskatoon or Regina.
The COPS centres have nurses, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and social workers who are specially trained in providing cancer care. The overall management and prescribing of treatments remains the responsibility of the oncologists.
